📍 邮寄地址:湖南省长沙市开福区山月路300号看守所 | 41000 🔗 Download & Print: 🖊️ On this #HumanRightsDay, we invite you to write a message to Tara on her special postcard. 132 days ago, #Tara #ZhangYadi was arrested in the Diqing Tibetan region of Yunnan, for advocating for Tibetan rights and promoting dialogue between Tibetans and Han-Chinese. All of her work contradicted the charge of “inciting separatism”, but was driven by empathy and a desire for understanding. Tara is now held in the l State Security Detention Center of Hunan. She has been denied access to her lawyer, her health situation is unknown, and her parents face intimidation. Her partner, Kalsang Yarphel, is suffering deeply. If not for her arrest, she would now be studying for her Anthropology master’s degree at SOAS. We know that a postcard alone cannot change her situation, but it may be the only comfort she can receive in bitter isolation, and the clearest way to show her detention facility that she is not forgotten. As one of her friend said: We cannot hold signs on the street. We cannot speak to the media. Some of us cannot even raise our voices. Yet a single postcard—just a few short lines—can cross high walls and remind someone isolated and cut off that the world has not forgotten them. ❄️ In this cold winter, we stand with Tara. 📍 Mailing Address: No. 300, Shanyue Road, Kaifu District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, China | 410000
Today, on the International Day for Women Human Rights Defenders, we stand with #Tara Zhang Yadi, and we call on everyone not to forget the many women human rights defenders who remain behind bars. 121 days ago, Tara was forcibly disappeared by 🇨🇳 state security officials in the Diqing Tibetan region of Yunnan, on allegations of “endangering national security.” She was later placed under criminal detention for “inciting separatism” and is held at the Hunan State Security Detention Center. Her lawyer has been denied access; her physical and mental condition remain unknown; her family is under surveillance and intimidation. She earned a Master’s scholarship in Anthropology at SOAS this year, but she is now unable to return to her campus. Everything she has done is the opposite of “separatism.” She worked to foster dialogue and understanding between Tibetans and Han-Chinese, and to advocate for Tibetan culture and rights. In recent years, she lived in Paris with her Tibetan partner, devoting much of her time to learning Tibetan and studying its culture and history. Her friends describe her as “gentle and sincere,” someone whose greatest strength is listening and understanding. ✊🌹 Yesterday, she stood with TIBET. Today, we stand with HER.
