Only Chinese will understand this: Get your sandals ready! 打小人 (“beating the villain”) is a Chinese folk ritual where a paper effigy representing an enemy is beaten to symbolically remove bad luck or harmful people. I think the Iranians is up to something. 打小人 Ritual Walkthrough Step 1 Write the name The practitioner writes the name (or symbolic identity) of the person causing trouble on a piece of paper. In this case Khamenei. Note: Need to be the full name. Using 123 or other names is not counted. Step 2 Create the effigy A small paper human figure is cut out to represent that person. It will cost more if you have a life size figure. Step 3 Summon the ritual Incense is lit and small offerings may be placed. The idea is to formally acknowledge the ritual. Step 4 Beat the “villain” The practitioner repeatedly strikes the paper effigy, traditionally using a shoe or sandal to symbolically punish the person causing harm. Step 5 Remove bad luck The effigy is then burned or disposed of, symbolizing the removal of bad influence from the client’s life. Typical Cost In the most famous public location, under the Canal Road Flyover in Hong Kong, the ritual is commonly performed by elderly women who specialize in it. Typical price range: Basic ritual: about HKD 50–100 (~USD 6–13) More elaborate rituals with offerings: about HKD 150–300 If you do not want to fork out the money, you can DIY like how it is practiced in Tehran.
