Boxer Rebellion (1899–1901): Attacks on Americans The Boxer Rebellion was an anti-foreign, anti-Christian uprising led by the "Righteous and Harmonious Fists" (义和团, Yìhétuán). The Boxers targeted foreigners, including Americans, whom they blamed for China’s woes under unequal treaties. In 1900, Boxers killed American missionaries, such as Charles Wesley Price and his family in Shanxi, and besieged foreign legations in Beijing, including Americans, for 55 days during the Siege of the International Legations.
