I’ve lost a lot of paid subscribers on X for my posts explaining why TikTok being owned by a China-based company is a huge privacy and national security risk for Americans. ByteDance already has a history of spying on American journalists through TikTok, for example. I was a bit surprised to see so many MAGA figures completely reverse their stance on the app, but then I learned a conservative ultra-mega donor (to political campaigns and groups) owns huge stakes in ByteDance. And he is hiring a lot of lobbyists on the right.
