Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was first celebrated in 1986 to honor the life & legacy of the influential leader of the Civil Rights Movement. His statue in the MLK Memorial shows Dr. King taking a determined stand; nonviolent, but unwavering in his vision for a better America.
